Introduction

Hello there fellow adventurers! My name is Jeff and I've been playing RPGs for as long as I can remember. I started with the D&D Red Box, which my parents got me for Christmas one year, and I've been hooked ever since. I have played and ran many different games systems and have always been interested in the under-the-hood mechanics of the various systems.

I am also interested in Data Science, a field that tries to extract knowledge from data. A part of this is is studying permutations. We can use these as tools to better our games in numerous ways, from building better encounters to creating better target numbers to getting the most out of our rolling systems.

This insight into how permutations and dice rolling work will hopefully make us better gamemasters and better players. My goal is to break these systems down so everyone can understand them, even without knowledge of the math involved. I will go through the math and some programming for those that want to go deeper, but my intent is to make these sections as simple and clear as possible.

I will also go into non-math insights that I have picked up over years of running and playing games. These concepts will hopefully be helpful to new and experienced gamers alike. I think that everyone can potentially be a gamemaster and I want to help get over the initial fear and learning curve that often holds people back.
